What to contact a surgeon about
- hernias: inguinal, umbilical, linea alba, postoperative - protrusion, pain on exertion;

- abdominal pain of unknown cause, suspicion of appendicitis;
- skin and soft tissue formations: lipomas, atheromas, “bumps”;
- heartburn and hiatal hernia, hydatid cysts;

- postoperative observation, dressings, suture removal.
How is the appointment going?
The surgeon listens to complaints, examines and palpates the problem area (the hernial orifice is checked while standing and straining), and studies photographs and tests. If the diagnosis is clear and there are indications for surgery, the doctor explains its essence, access, type of anesthesia, duration of hospitalization and recovery, and prescribes a preoperative examination; if there is insufficient data, he refers for ultrasound, MSCT or endoscopy. For conditions that do not require surgery, conservative treatment with monitoring is prescribed.
