It is advisable to make an appointment with a surgeon of the highest category in case of recurrent hernia after previous operations, giant ventral hernias with domain loss, complicated cholelithiasis (after cholecystitis, with suspected duct stones), echinococcosis, when choosing bariatric surgery, and also if surgery has been suggested elsewhere and a second opinion is needed. The doctor, who will operate himself, assesses the risks, selects a technique (including mesh implants and combined interventions) and guides the patient from consultation to discharge.
What to contact a surgeon about
- hernias: inguinal, umbilical, linea alba, postoperative - protrusion, pain on exertion;
- cholelithiasis, attacks of pain in the right hypochondrium;
- abdominal pain of unknown cause, suspicion of appendicitis;
- skin and soft tissue formations: lipomas, atheromas, “bumps”;

How is the appointment going?
The surgeon listens to complaints, examines and palpates the problem area (the hernial orifice is checked while standing and straining), and studies photographs and tests. If the diagnosis is clear and there are indications for surgery, the doctor explains its essence, access, type of anesthesia, duration of hospitalization and recovery, and prescribes a preoperative examination; if there is insufficient data, he refers for ultrasound, MSCT or endoscopy.
