Features of the plastic version

The acrylic base is rigid, so this microprosthesis holds its shape more accurately, but also feels more noticeable than nylon. It is easily adjusted and repaired, which is convenient when the structure is needed for several months - for example, before implantation. It is fixed with metal or plastic clasps on adjacent teeth.

When is a removable denture needed?

Removable prosthetics are used when too many teeth are missing for a bridge structure, and implantation is impossible or delayed. Dentures restore chewing, speech and appearance, and prevent the remaining teeth from shifting.

The choice of design depends on how many teeth are preserved and in what condition they are: from a small microprosthesis for one or two teeth to a full prosthesis for a toothless jaw.

Types of removable structures

  • clasp denture - with a metal arch, distributes the load between the teeth and gums
  • plate prosthesis - acrylic base with artificial teeth, full or partial
  • nylon prosthesis - flexible, without metal elements
  • microprosthesis (“butterfly”) - a temporary solution for one or two missing teeth

How is production carried out?

Typically, 3-5 visits are required: taking impressions, determining the central relationship of the jaws, trying on the wax structure with teeth, handing over the finished prosthesis and correction. The dental laboratory is open between visits.

The finished prosthesis should not balance, rub or interfere with closure. A little sanding in the first weeks is a normal part of the process and not a sign of error.

Caring for your prosthesis

The denture is cleaned with a brush and soap or a special product twice a day and washed after meals. It can be left in the mouth overnight or stored in a dry container as recommended by a doctor. An examination is needed every six months: the bone under the prosthesis gradually decreases, and the structure has to be repositioned.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to get used to a removable denture?+
On average 2–4 weeks. In the first days, increased salivation and unclear diction are possible - this passes. Reading aloud and eating soft foods in small portions helps.
How long does a removable denture last?+
From 3 to 7 years. The period is limited not so much by the wear of the material, but by the loss of bone tissue: over time, the prosthesis ceases to fit tightly and requires relining or replacement.
Is it possible to sleep in a prosthesis?+
In the first weeks, doctors often recommend not removing the prosthesis at night - this way, adaptation goes faster. Then the decision is made individually.
What to do if the prosthesis rubs?+
Come for correction, and do not endure and do not undermine yourself. In a few minutes, the doctor will polish the area that injures the mucous membrane.
