When a permanent tab is enough
A solid-cast post is used when the canals are straight and parallel - usually incisors, canines and single-rooted premolars. The structure is removed from the canal in one movement during fitting and fixed in one movement, so its production is simpler and faster than the dismountable version.
What is a stump pin insert
This is an individually cast structure made of two parts: a post, which fits into the root canal, and a stump, which protrudes above the gum and serves as a support for the crown. Essentially, the doctor re-creates the stump of a destroyed tooth.
Unlike a standard post with a composite superstructure, a cast inlay precisely follows the shape of the canal and evenly distributes the load - the risk of root splitting is noticeably lower.
When to use it
- the crown part of the tooth is destroyed by more than two thirds
- the tooth is already pulpless and the canals are qualitatively sealed
- you need reliable support for a single crown or bridge
- the root walls are of sufficient thickness according to the image data
How is production carried out?
On the first visit, the canal is unfilled to the required depth and a bed for the inlay is formed, then an impression is taken. The laboratory casts a metal inlay or makes a zirconium one. On the second visit, they try it on, check the fit using a photograph and fix it with cement, after which they grind it down for a crown.
