How injections work

The drug is injected directly into the dense scar tissue, where it inhibits the activity of fibroblasts and destroys excess collagen fibers. The scar gradually flattens, turns pale, and itching and pain go away. The course usually consists of 3-5 procedures with an interval of 3-4 weeks. The method is used independently - for small keloids, and as a mandatory step after surgical excision to prevent relapse. The insertion is noticeably painful due to the density of the tissue, but takes less than a minute.

Why can't a scar be completely removed?

Any cut in the skin heals through the formation of a scar - this is the only way of recovery available to the body. Therefore, the task of the operation is not to “remove the scar,” but to replace a wide, retracted or deforming scar with a thin and inconspicuous one, located along the lines of skin tension.

The result depends not only on the technique, but also on the individual tendency to scarring, localization and subsequent care. Scars always form worse on the sternum, shoulders and back than on the face.

Types of scars

  • normotrophic - at the skin level, the most favorable
  • atrophic - retracted, below skin level
  • hypertrophic - protruding, but within the boundaries of the wound
  • keloid - grows beyond the wound, prone to relapse

When to operate

A fresh scar takes 6–12 months to mature: it gradually turns pale, flattens and softens. It is not advisable to operate earlier - the result may be worse than the natural result of maturation. The exception is scars that limit movement or deform facial features.

Frequently asked questions

Is it possible to remove a scar with laser without surgery?+
Laser techniques improve the color and relief of superficial scars, but they will not narrow a wide or retracted scar. For rough scars, excision followed by laser resurfacing is more effective.
How long after an injury can surgery be performed?+
Usually after 6–12 months, when the scar has matured. Previously, only with functional limitations.
Can a keloid appear again?+
Yes, keloids are prone to recurrence, so excision alone is not enough: glucocorticoid injections, silicone coatings and compression are used.
Should I protect my scar from the sun?+
Necessarily. Ultraviolet radiation in the first 6–12 months causes persistent pigmentation of the scar, so sunscreens with a high factor are needed.
