How does camouflage work?
With vitiligo, the melanocytes in the lesion are destroyed and the skin loses color. Dermography does not restore their function, but masks the defect: a pigment selected to match the surrounding tone is injected into the skin. The method is especially in demand for open areas - the face, hands - where spots cause the greatest psychological discomfort. The work is carried out based on area; large lesions are treated in several sessions. Important restrictions: the procedure is performed only at a stable stage, when the spots do not grow for at least a year, and the pigment fades over time and requires renewal. In addition, the selected shade will not change along with the tan of the surrounding skin.
Removal of benign skin lesions
Lipoma (“wen”), atheroma, hygroma and fibroma are benign formations that do not resolve on their own. While they are small, removal takes 20–30 minutes and leaves minimal scarring.
As the formation grows, the operation becomes more complicated: the incision increases, the risk of suppuration and relapse increases if the capsule is not completely removed. Therefore, postponing intervention is inappropriate.
Why is histology important?
An externally benign formation in rare cases turns out to be malignant. Histological examination of the removed material is a mandatory standard that gives an accurate answer about its nature.
