What does the conclusion contain?
An oncological drug is examined according to standards: the number of blocks from the edges and nodes is regulated, the conclusion answers TNM questions - size and type of tumor, invasion, edges (R0/R1), number of examined and affected nodes. For non-standard cases, an IHC panel is prescribed. It is possible to review finished glass and blocks from other institutions (second opinion). Glass slides and blocks are stored and issued upon request - they may be needed for consultations and molecular tests.
Indications
- verification of any removed tissues and biopsies is a mandatory standard;
- urgent intraoperative diagnostics - decision of the volume on the table;
- hormone therapy for prostate and breast cancer with LHRH analogues (Zoladex);
- review of finished glasses - a second opinion of a morphologist.
Morphology is the foundation of oncology
Not a single oncological diagnosis exists without morphological confirmation: histology determines the type of tumor, degree of malignancy, resection margins, node involvement, and IHC determines the receptor profile, on which the choice of therapy depends. Urgent intraoperative examination allows the surgeon to change the volume based on the fact (cleanliness of the edges, nature of the finding). Depot hormone therapy (Zoladex) is a minute-long outpatient procedure, critically performed just in time - the clinic keeps a calendar and reminds.
