The earliest, but not the most accurate
Myoglobin is a small molecule that quickly leaves damaged cells: its level rises within 1–2 hours after the onset of myocardial infarction, while troponin becomes informative after 3–6 hours. This makes it useful for ruling out infarction very early: normal myoglobin 4–6 hours after the onset of pain makes the diagnosis unlikely. However, the specificity is low - the indicator increases equally when any muscles are damaged: after intense exercise, trauma, intramuscular injections, convulsions, myopathies and rhabdomyolysis. Therefore, a positive result must be confirmed with troponin. A separate important application is rhabdomyolysis: a massive release of myoglobin damages the kidneys, and its control determines treatment tactics.

How to read the result
Reference values depend on the method and equipment of the laboratory, so it is correct to compare results only within the same laboratory. A deviation of a few percent from the normal limit in itself rarely matters - the overall picture and dynamics are important.
The analysis must be interpreted by a doctor: an isolated indicator without a clinical context is often misleading and leads to unnecessary examinations.
