How to remove a spiral
Removal is best performed during or immediately after menstruation, when the canal is slightly open; a short-term nagging pain is felt. Indications for early removal: inflammation, heavy painful menstruation on a copper IUD, displacement according to ultrasound, pregnancy (removed if the threads are visible), pregnancy planning. If you wish to continue contraception, a new IUD is inserted during the same procedure (introduction is paid for). If the threads are not visible (retracted into the canal, the spiral has shifted), extraction is carried out under ultrasound control or hysteroscopically - an additional payment is possible according to the price list.
Indications and types of spirals
- long-term reversible contraception in parous and nulliparous women (according to indications);
- copper-containing IUDs - 5–10 years, without hormones, can increase menstruation;
- hormonal IUDs (levonorgestrel) - 5–8 years, reduce bleeding, treat hyperplasia, adenomyosis, fibroids with bleeding;
- emergency contraception with a copper-containing IUD for 5 days;
- contraindications: pregnancy, acute inflammation, uterine abnormalities, unexplained bleeding, for copper - heavy menstruation.
How it works
The copper coil creates an environment in the uterine cavity that is harmful to sperm and prevents implantation; the hormonal hormone secretes levonorgestrel, which thickens cervical mucus and thins the endometrium, causing menstruation to become scanty or stop. The effectiveness of both types is 99%, the action begins immediately, fertility is restored in the first cycle after removal. The IUD does not protect against infections, so a healthy smear before insertion and a stable partner are important.
