Obliterating endarteritis (Buerger's disease)
Obliterating endarteritis, or Buerger's disease, is an inflammatory disease of small and medium-sized arteries and veins, most often of the hands and feet. Inflammation with clots develops in the lumen of the vessel, the blood flow is gradually blocked, and the tissues begin to suffer from a lack of oxygen. The disease is almost always associated with smoking and in the vast majority of cases develops in men under forty-five years of age. First, chilliness and pain in the feet when walking bother you, then the pain appears at rest, and non-healing ulcers appear on the fingers. The only method to stop progression is complete and final cessation of tobacco.

Frostbite (frostbite)
Frostbite is tissue damage caused by cold. First, the vessels constrict to retain body heat, blood flow in the fingers, ears and nose drops sharply, and with further cooling, ice crystals form in the tissues, destroying cells. The second stage is no less dangerous: when warming, inflammation and thrombosis develop in damaged vessels, due to which some of the tissues die after the person has entered the heat. That is why the depth of the lesion cannot be assessed immediately, and first aid must be correct. Rubbing with snow, drinking alcohol and hot water do not help, but increase the amount of damage.

Burns (thermal)
A burn is damage to the skin and underlying tissues caused by heat, chemicals, electricity or radiation. In everyday life, people are most often burned with boiling water, steam, hot oil and hot utensils, and a significant proportion of victims are children under three years of age. The severity of a burn is determined by two factors: the depth of the lesion and the area. A small superficial burn heals in 1–2 weeks without leaving a trace, but a large one is life-threatening due to fluid loss and infection. Correct actions in the first minutes actually reduce the depth of damage, so everyone should know them.

Mediastinal tumor
The mediastinum is the space in the center of the chest between the lungs, where the heart and large vessels, trachea, esophagus, thymus gland, nerves and lymph nodes are located. The formation here is not a diagnosis, but a finding, which can be behind many different conditions: from a harmless cyst and an enlarged lymph node due to infection to lymphoma, thymoma, germ cell or nerve tumor. A significant proportion of such formations are benign, and in adults, almost half are discovered by chance during a chest x-ray. The key to the solution is the location: anterior, middle or posterior mediastinum, since each section has its own set of probable tumors.

Osteomyelitis
Osteomyelitis is a purulent inflammation of the bone and bone marrow, which is most often caused by bacteria, primarily Staphylococcus aureus. Microbes enter the bone through the bloodstream, through a wound in an open fracture, during surgery, or from a nearby lesion—for example, from a deep foot ulcer in a person with diabetes. Inflammation quickly destroys bone tissue: pus, cavities and areas of dead bone are formed, which are called sequestra. The acute form begins with high fever and severe arching pain, while the chronic form lasts for years with fistulas and exacerbations. Without timely treatment, the infection spreads to the joint and blood, leading to pathological fractures and sepsis, so suspicion of osteomyelitis requires urgent medical attention.

Osteomyelitis of the jaw
Osteomyelitis of the jaw is a purulent inflammation of the bone tissue of the jaw along with the bone marrow and periosteum. In the vast majority of cases, the infection comes from a diseased tooth: neglected caries turns into pulpitis, then into periodontitis, and pus breaks into the bone. Less commonly, the cause is a broken jaw, infection with blood, and complications after tooth extraction. The disease develops quickly: severe pain, high fever, swelling of the face, adjacent teeth become loose, and the lip becomes numb. This is not a condition that can be treated at home with rinses: without timely opening of the abscess and antibiotics, serious complications are possible, so urgent help from a dental surgeon is needed.

Acute thrombosis of the arteries of the lower extremities
Acute thrombosis or embolism of an artery of the lower extremity is a sudden blockage of blood flow, in which the tissues of the leg are left without oxygen. The cause is a clot that came from the heart during atrial fibrillation, or a blood clot that formed at the site of an atherosclerotic plaque. The leg suddenly becomes cold, pale, painful, the pulse disappears, sensitivity and movement are impaired. This is an emergency condition: the muscles begin to die irreversibly within a few hours, so the speed of treatment determines whether the limb can be saved. If you have such symptoms, you should immediately call an ambulance by calling 103.

Panaritium and paronychia
Panaritium is an acute purulent inflammation of the tissues of the finger, most often on the palmar side or around the nail. Paronychia is called inflammation of the periungual fold: this is the most common and superficial form. The infection, usually staphylococcal or streptococcal, enters through hangnails, injections, manicure cuts, and splinters. Redness, swelling and throbbing, “tugging” pain appear, which may prevent you from sleeping. The skin of the finger is dense, and the tissues are separated by partitions, so pus easily spreads deep into the tendons, joint and bone. Superficial forms at an early stage are treated conservatively, and if pus accumulates, surgery is necessary. Delay and independent opening threaten the loss of finger function.

Pancreatitis
Pancreatitis is inflammation of the pancreas. The peculiarity of this organ is that it produces powerful digestive enzymes, and during inflammation they are activated inside the gland itself, beginning to digest it. Hence the extreme intensity of pain in acute pancreatitis and the severity of the condition. The two main causes in adults are known and account for about 80% of all cases: gallstones and alcohol. Chronic pancreatitis develops over years and is manifested not so much by pain as by indigestion and weight loss.

Peritonsillar abscess
Peritonsillar abscess is an accumulation of pus in the tissue around the tonsil. Most often, it develops as a complication of sore throat or exacerbation of chronic tonsillitis on the fifth to seventh day of illness, when, after some improvement, the sore throat sharply intensifies and becomes one-sided. Characterized by the inability to open the mouth wide, pain when swallowing, radiating to the ear, a nasal voice, drooling and high fever. This is an emergency: the pus can spread to the tissue of the neck and chest. The treatment is surgical - the doctor opens the abscess and prescribes antibiotics; in case of repeated episodes, removal of the tonsils is discussed.
