Pelvioperitonitis (inflammation of the pelvic peritoneum)
Pelvioperitonitis is an inflammation of the peritoneum lining the pelvic cavity. This is not an independent disease, but a complication: most often the infection spreads from inflamed fallopian tubes and ovaries, less often - after childbirth, abortion, surgery, insertion of an intrauterine device or when a purulent formation of the appendages ruptures. The woman feels a sharp pain in the lower abdomen, the temperature rises, chills, nausea, and muscle tension in the anterior abdominal wall appear. The condition requires urgent hospitalization: without treatment, inflammation can spread to the entire abdominal cavity and lead to sepsis, and in the long term to adhesions, chronic pain and infertility.

Ovarian torsion
Ovarian torsion is an acute condition in which the ovary, together with the fallopian tube, rotates around its ligament and compresses the supplying vessels. First, the venous outflow is disrupted, the organ swells and enlarges, then the arterial inflow is blocked, and without help the ovarian tissue dies. Most often, torsion occurs with an enlarged ovary: with a cyst, after stimulation of ovulation, with a tumor, as well as in girls and adolescents whose ligaments are longer. The main symptom is sudden, severe, one-sided pain in the lower abdomen, often with nausea and vomiting. This is an indication for emergency surgery: with quick intervention, the ovary can be saved.

Peritonitis
Peritonitis is an inflammation of the peritoneum, the thin membrane that lines the abdominal cavity and covers the organs. Most often it is secondary: the contents of an inflamed or ruptured organ enter the abdominal cavity due to appendicitis, perforated ulcer, inflammation of the gallbladder, or damage to the intestine. Less common is primary peritonitis, which occurs when the infection enters the abdominal fluid in people with cirrhosis. The peritoneum has a huge area, so inflammation quickly leads to loss of fluid, intoxication and severe general condition. This is a classic surgical disaster: if help is delayed, the outcome becomes severe, so suspicion of peritonitis requires an immediate call to the ambulance.

Pyloric stenosis in children
Pyloric stenosis is a congenital narrowing of the gastric outlet due to thickening of the pyloric muscle. Food cannot pass into the intestines, accumulates in the stomach and is regurgitated. The disease does not appear immediately after birth, but in the third to sixth week of life: regurgitation first appears, which quickly turns into profuse vomiting in a fountain without any admixture of bile. The child remains hungry and immediately asks for food, but stops gaining weight and then loses it. Due to the constant loss of gastric juice, the balance of salts and acidity of the blood is disrupted. The condition is completely curable, but requires surgery, so if you experience such vomiting, you should consult a doctor without delay.

Pneumothorax
Pneumothorax is an accumulation of air between the lung and the chest wall. Normally, there is no air in the pleural cavity, and the lung is expanded due to negative pressure. If the integrity of the lung or chest wall is compromised, air enters and the lung collapses, partially or completely. There is a sudden stabbing pain in the side and increasing shortness of breath. Spontaneous pneumothorax most often occurs in tall, thin young men for no apparent reason, secondary - due to lung diseases, traumatic - after wounds and rib fractures. The condition requires emergency medical care: in the severe version, minutes count.

Polyps and cholesterosis of the gallbladder
Gallbladder polyps are any growths on its inner wall that are visible on ultrasound and do not move when changing body position. Most of them are not true tumors, but accumulations of cholesterol in the wall of the bladder (cholesterosis), which do not develop into cancer. Less common are true polyps - adenomas, which can become malignant over time. It is not always possible to distinguish them by ultrasound, so the tactics are determined by size, shape, growth rate and risk factors: small polyps are observed using control ultrasound, and large and growing ones are removed along with the gallbladder laparoscopically.

Bedsores
Bedsores are injuries to the skin and underlying tissues that occur due to prolonged pressure on the same areas of the body. The blood supply in these places stops, the cells die, and a wound is formed. People who cannot change position on their own are at greatest risk: after a stroke, spinal injury, major surgery, in old age and exhaustion. Favorite places are the sacrum, heels, shoulder blades, elbows, greater trochanters of the hips, and the back of the head. A bedsore can begin within a few hours of immobility and take months to heal, so the main thing in this topic is prevention: regular change of position, proper skin care and nutrition.

Pancreatic cancer
Pancreatic cancer is a malignant tumor that in most cases develops from the cells of the pancreatic ducts (ductal adenocarcinoma). This is one of the most insidious tumors: the gland is located deep in the abdomen, and in the early stages the disease hardly manifests itself. When symptoms appear—jaundice, back pain, weight loss—the tumor has often already spread. If detected early, when the tumor can be removed surgically, the chances are much higher. Therefore, it is important to know the warning signs, especially in older people: painless jaundice, unexplained weight loss, and new-onset diabetes after age 50.

Vomiting blood
Vomiting blood means bleeding from the esophagus, stomach or duodenum. The blood may be scarlet if the bleeding is fresh and profuse, or resemble coffee grounds if it has had time to act with hydrochloric acid. Any of these options is an emergency that requires calling an ambulance because the amount of blood loss is often greater than it appears. The most common sources are gastric and duodenal ulcers, mucosal erosions due to painkillers and alcohol, varicose veins of the esophagus with cirrhosis of the liver, rupture of the mucous membrane after repeated vomiting. Sometimes swallowed blood during a nosebleed is mistaken for hematemesis.

Erysipelas (erysipelas)
Erysipelas, or erysipelas, is an acute bacterial infection of the skin and subcutaneous tissue caused by beta-hemolytic streptococcus. Bacteria penetrate through minor injuries: cracks in the heels, diaper rash between the toes, abrasions, bites. The disease usually begins suddenly with chills and high fever, and after a few hours a bright red, hot, swollen area with clear, jagged edges appears on the skin. Most often the legs are affected, less often the face and hands. Without treatment, the infection spreads and can lead to suppuration, tissue death and sepsis. Erysipelas are prone to relapses, which damage the lymphatic vessels and cause persistent swelling. Antibiotics are prescribed by the doctor.
