Empyema of the pleura
Pleural empyema is an accumulation of pus in the space between the lung and the chest wall. Most often, it develops as a complication of pneumonia: first, a transparent effusion appears around the inflamed area, then microbes penetrate it, the liquid becomes cloudy, partitions form, and eventually pus forms. The lungs tighten, breathing becomes difficult, and the temperature remains high. This accumulation does not resolve on its own, and antibiotics are not enough—the pus must be removed. Therefore, the basis of treatment is puncture and drainage of the pleural cavity in combination with long-term antibiotic therapy in the hospital.

Epithelial coccygeal duct (pilonidal cyst)
The epithelial coccygeal duct, or pilonidal cyst, is a narrow canal under the skin in the intergluteal fold above the coccyx, opening on the skin with one or more pinholes. Hair and skin particles get into the process, which over time causes chronic inflammation and suppuration. The disease is more common in young men with significant hair growth, excess weight and sedentary work. As long as the tract is not inflamed, it may not manifest itself in any way. When suppuration occurs, painful swelling, redness and purulent discharge occur. Treatment is surgical: antibiotics and ointments only temporarily relieve inflammation, but do not eliminate the course itself.

Pulmonary echinococcosis
Pulmonary echinococcosis is a parasitic disease in which a fluid-filled cyst, the larval stage of the tapeworm Echinococcus, develops in the lung. A person becomes infected by ingesting parasite eggs with unwashed vegetables and herbs, water, or after contact with a dog in whose fur they are stored. The cyst grows slowly, over the years, and does not give any complaints for a long time, so it is often found by chance during fluorography or an image for another reason. As they grow, coughing, chest pain and shortness of breath appear. The main danger is rupture of the cyst with a severe allergic reaction and contamination. The main method of treatment is surgical.

Furuncle, carbuncle and skin abscess
A furuncle is a purulent inflammation of the hair follicle and surrounding tissues, commonly known as a boil. A carbuncle is the fusion of several boils into one large lesion, an abscess is a limited cavity with pus. The causative agent is almost always the same - Staphylococcus aureus. The main rule for all these conditions is easy to formulate: do not squeeze. This is especially true of the face - the area of the nasolabial triangle is connected by veins to the cranial cavity, and an attempt to squeeze out an abscess can result in meningitis or thrombosis of the cerebral sinuses.
