Euthyroid (diffuse nontoxic) goiter
Diffuse nontoxic goiter is a uniform enlargement of the thyroid gland with normal hormone levels. The word “euthyroid” means that the function of the gland is preserved: TSH and thyroxine are within normal limits, so there are no characteristic complaints of palpitations, sweating or lethargy. In regions with a lack of iodine, which includes Central Asia, the main reason is iodine deficiency: the iron increases, trying to capture more iodine from the blood. Goiter is most often detected in adolescents, women, pregnant and lactating women, who have a higher need for iodine. The condition proceeds calmly, but requires observation: over time, nodes can form in the gland and the function can change.

Hypogonadism (testosterone deficiency)
Hypogonadism is a condition in which the testicles do not produce enough testosterone. Its symptoms are nonspecific: fatigue, decreased desire, weight gain, irritability - and are easily attributed to stress or age. At the same time, today there is an opposite problem: testosterone is prescribed without proper reasons, which suppresses the hormone’s own production and deprives a man of fertility. Therefore, both diagnosis and treatment here require a strict approach.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
Polycystic ovary syndrome is a hormonal disorder in which ovulation is disrupted, the level of male sex hormones increases and many small follicles accumulate in the ovaries. This is one of the most common causes of irregular cycles and infertility in women. It is important to understand: PCOS is not a “cyst that needs to be removed,” but a systemic metabolic condition, and the main treatment here is not surgical.

Diabetic nephropathy
Diabetic nephropathy is kidney damage caused by diabetes mellitus and the leading cause of chronic kidney disease worldwide. Its main feature is that in the first years it does not give any symptoms at all: the person feels well, but the filtering apparatus of the kidneys is already damaged. The only way to detect it on time is an annual urine test for albumin and calculation of GFR, and not waiting for complaints.

Alopecia (hair loss)
Hair loss is a complaint that is associated with completely different conditions: from a temporary reaction to stress or illness to irreversible scarring baldness. This is why “anti-hair loss shampoo” helps so rarely: you need to treat the cause, not the symptom. The first thing you should know: losing 50–100 hairs per day is normal. A persistent increase in hair loss, thinning of the parting, and the appearance of bald patches or areas of complete baldness are considered alarming.

Polyneuropathy
Polyneuropathy is a multiple lesion of the peripheral nerves, in which the longest fibers going to the feet and hands are affected. Hence the characteristic distribution of symptoms: numbness, burning and tingling begin from the toes and spread upward along the “socks”, later the “gloves” join. Polyneuropathy is not a diagnosis in itself, but a consequence: there is a cause behind it, and the doctor’s main task is to find it. Most often these are diabetes mellitus, vitamin B12 deficiency or alcohol abuse.

Gynecomastia
Gynecomastia is an enlargement of the mammary glands in men due to the proliferation of glandular tissue. This is not a cosmetic detail: it may be due to hormonal disorders, liver disease, taking certain medications or anabolic steroids, and occasionally, a hormonally active tumor. Therefore, the first step for gynecomastia is not surgery or the gym, but an examination that will show the cause.

Amenorrhea (lack of menstruation)
Amenorrhea is the absence of menstruation for three months or more in a woman who has had a period, or their complete absence by a certain age in a teenager. This is not an independent disease, but a symptom, and anything can be behind it: from pregnancy and a strict diet to a pituitary tumor. Another important thing is that a long absence of menstruation in itself is unsafe for the health of bones and the endometrium.

Klinefelter syndrome is a genetic condition in which a male has an extra X chromosome (karyotype 47,XXY). Meanwhile, early diagnosis makes it possible to start therapy on time and preserve the possibility of paternity.
