Hair loss: causes and treatment of alopecia in Tashkent

Other names: Облысение, гнёздная алопеция, андрогенная алопеция, телогеновое выпадение

Hair loss is a complaint that is associated with completely different conditions: from a temporary reaction to stress or illness to irreversible scarring baldness. This is why “anti-hair loss shampoo” helps so rarely: you need to treat the cause, not the symptom. The first thing you should know: losing 50–100 hairs per day is normal. A persistent increase in hair loss, thinning of the parting, and the appearance of bald patches or areas of complete baldness are considered alarming.

With these signs do not wait for a scheduled appointment — the condition requires emergency care.

Basic forms

  • Telogen loss: diffuse thinning 2–3 months after stress, illness, surgery, childbirth, or sudden weight loss. Reversible, hair is restored in 6–12 months
  • Androgenetic alopecia: in men - bald patches and thinning on the crown; for women - widening the parting while maintaining the growth line. Progresses slowly, requires constant treatment
  • Alopecia areata: round patches of complete baldness with smooth skin. Autoimmune nature, unpredictable course, both spontaneous recovery and progression are possible
  • Scarring alopecia: the openings of the hair follicles disappear, the skin is smooth and shiny. Hair in this area does not grow back - it is important to stop the process as early as possible
  • Traction: from tight hairstyles, extensions, constant tension

What to look for in tests

In women with diffuse prolapse, examination almost always provides an explanation. The minimum set is small and inexpensive.

Treatment by form

  • Telogen: eliminate the cause, fill deficiencies, improve nutrition and sleep. Hair grows back on its own, often without drugs
  • Androgenic: minoxidil externally for a long time; in men, additionally, drugs that block the conversion of testosterone; in women - antiandrogens according to indications. The effect persists only during treatment
  • Nest: topical and intralesional glucocorticosteroids, for common forms - systemic and targeted therapy
  • Cicatricial: the main goal is to stop inflammation; anti-inflammatory therapy is prescribed urgently; lost hair can only be restored by transplantation
  • Traction: avoiding tight hairstyles and extensions
  • Hair transplant - with a stable process and sufficient donor area

An important expectation: hair grows by about 1 cm per month, and the first results of any treatment are visible no earlier than after 3-4 months, and full results - after 6-12. There is no point in assessing the effect earlier.

Care and lifestyle

  • Wash your hair as it becomes dirty - infrequent washing does not preserve hair
  • Avoid tight ponytails, braids, extensions and harsh chemical treatments
  • Limit heat styling, use heat protection
  • Complete protein in the diet: hair consists of protein, and strict diets are a common cause of hair loss
  • Getting enough sleep and dealing with stress
  • Protecting your scalp from the sun

Frequently asked questions: Alopecia (hair loss)

How much hair per day is normal?+
50–100 hairs per day. More hair is noticeable when washing because it accumulates over a few days. It is alarming if the hair loss has become persistently worse, the parting has widened, or areas of baldness have appeared.
Do vitamins help hair?+
Only with confirmed deficiency. Without it, supplements do not work, and an excess of some trace elements, such as selenium, itself causes hair loss. First, tests: ferritin, TSH, vitamin D.
When can I expect results from treatment?+
Hair grows approximately 1 cm per month. The first changes are visible after 3-4 months, full results - after 6-12. There is no point in assessing the effect earlier.
Why did my hair fall out after childbirth or illness?+
This is telogen effluvium: stress puts many follicles into a resting phase, and after 2-3 months they fall out at the same time. The condition is reversible, hair is restored in 6–12 months.
Is it possible to get hair back from scarring alopecia?+
No, in the scarring area the follicles are destroyed irrevocably. Therefore, treatment is aimed at urgently stopping inflammation, and volume can only be restored through hair transplantation.
