Low body temperature (hypothermia)
Body temperature is considered low if it is below 35 °C, measured correctly and at rest. Values of 36.0–36.4 °C for many people are simply an individual norm, especially in the morning and for thin people. True hypothermia develops when the body loses heat faster than it produces: in the cold, during alcohol intoxication, in the elderly and in newborns. Persistently low numbers without hypothermia force one to look for the cause within: decreased thyroid function, anemia, exhaustion, adrenal insufficiency, side effects of medications. A separate and dangerous situation is low temperature during a severe infection: in a weakened person, the body responds to infection not with fever, but with a drop in temperature.

Postpartum thyroiditis
Postpartum thyroiditis is an autoimmune inflammation of the thyroid gland that develops in the first year after childbirth. During pregnancy, the immune system works more restrained, and after childbirth its activity is restored, and in predisposed women this leads to an attack on its own thyroid gland. Classically, the disease goes through several phases: first, an excess of hormones due to the destruction of gland cells with palpitations and irritability, then a lack of hormones with weakness, chilliness and swelling, and in most cases, recovery. Symptoms can easily be attributed to fatigue and worries about the child, so the diagnosis is often made late. Simple blood tests help figure it out.

Constant thirst (polydipsia)
Thirst is a normal signal that the body uses to ask for water when the blood becomes more concentrated or fluid volume drops. Polydipsia is said to occur when you are constantly thirsty, the amount you drink exceeds the usual amount, and the thirst does not go away after a glass of water, wakes you up at night, and is combined with frequent excessive urination. The most common serious cause of this combination is newly diagnosed or poorly controlled diabetes mellitus: excess glucose pulls water into the urine. Less commonly, the cause is diabetes insipidus, high blood calcium, kidney disease, and taking diuretics. A separate issue is dry mouth without true thirst - it is usually associated with the salivary glands and mouth breathing.

Prediabetes (impaired glucose tolerance)
Prediabetes is a condition in which blood glucose levels are higher than normal, but have not yet reached levels that would allow a diagnosis of diabetes mellitus. It occurs when cells lose sensitivity to insulin, and the pancreas compensates for this by increasing the production of the hormone for some time. Prediabetes is almost always asymptomatic and discovered by chance during testing, so many people live with it for years without knowing. The main value of the diagnosis is that at this stage the process is reversible: changes in diet, weight loss and regular physical activity can return indicators to normal and significantly reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.

Premature ovarian failure (ovarian wasting)
Premature ovarian failure is a condition in which the ovaries stop working fully before the age of 40. Menstruation becomes infrequent or disappears, estrogen levels decrease, hot flashes, dryness, sleep and mood disturbances appear, and fertility plummets. This is not the same as regular menopause: in some women, ovarian function resumes sporadically, and pregnancy, although rare, occurs on its own. The main thing you need to know: long-term estrogen deficiency at a young age harms bones and blood vessels, so replacement therapy is prescribed not for comfort, but to protect health.

Precocious puberty
Precocious puberty is said to occur when signs of puberty appear in a girl before the age of 8, and in a boy before the age of 9. This may be an enlargement of the mammary glands, hair growth in the armpits and pubic area, the appearance of a sweat odor, an enlargement of the external genitalia in a boy, and in more pronounced cases, menstruation. At the same time, the child is often noticeably ahead of his peers in height. The paradox is that early maturation closes the growth zones of bones, and as a result, adult height is lower than expected. In addition, sometimes there is a disease behind early development that requires treatment. Therefore, such changes must be shown to a pediatric endocrinologist.

Prolactinoma (pituitary adenoma)
Prolactinoma is a benign tumor of the pituitary gland that produces excess of the hormone prolactin. This is the most common hormonally active pituitary adenoma. High prolactin suppresses the production of sex hormones, so in women the menstrual cycle is disrupted or disappears, discharge from the breast appears and difficulties with conception, and in men libido and potency decrease, body hair decreases, and sometimes the mammary glands become enlarged. A large tumor puts additional pressure on the visual pathways and causes headaches and loss of lateral visual fields. The main feature of prolactinoma is that most patients are successfully treated with pills, and only a fraction of them require surgery.

Adrenal cancer (adrenocortical cancer)
Adrenocortical cancer is a rare malignant tumor of the adrenal cortex, a paired organ above the kidneys that produces cortisol, aldosterone and sex hormones. The tumor can be hormonally active or “silent”. In the first case, it is revealed by bright endocrine manifestations: rapid weight gain with a rounded face and purple stretch marks, poorly controlled blood pressure, muscle weakness, and in women, male-pattern hair growth and cycle disruption. In the second case, the formation is discovered accidentally during a CT scan or ultrasound performed for another reason. Any finding in the adrenal gland requires two answers: whether it produces hormones and whether there are signs of malignancy.

Thyroid cancer
Thyroid cancer is a malignant tumor that develops from thyroid cells. Despite the frightening name, this is one of the most favorable cancer diseases: the vast majority of cases are papillary and follicular forms, which grow slowly and respond well to treatment. In the early stages, the tumor is almost always asymptomatic and is detected as a node during an ultrasound done for another reason. It is important to understand the proportions: thyroid nodules are very common, and only a small part of them turn out to be malignant. The decision about puncture is made not by the size of the node, but by ultrasound signs assessed using the TI-RADS system.

Early gray hair
Gray hair occurs when the pigment cells in the hair follicle stop producing melanin, leaving the growing hair uncolored. This is a natural process, but the timing of its onset varies greatly from person to person and is primarily determined by heredity: if the parents turned gray early, the same is likely to happen in their children. Gray hair is considered premature when it appears noticeably earlier than the normal age for its population. Sometimes there are removable causes behind early graying - deficiency of vitamin B12, iron, thyroid disease, smoking - and then it makes sense to get examined, although it is impossible to return the color to already gray hair.
