Hyperprolactinemia (increased prolactin)
Hyperprolactinemia is a persistent increase in the level of prolactin, a pituitary hormone that is normally responsible for milk production after childbirth. Outside of pregnancy and lactation, excess prolactin suppresses the production of hormones that control the ovaries and testicles, so in women the menstrual cycle is disrupted or stopped and it becomes difficult to get pregnant, and in men libido and potency decrease. The reasons are varied: a benign tumor of the pituitary gland - prolactinoma, taking a number of medications, hypothyroidism, stress and even improper preparation for the analysis. Before prescribing treatment, the doctor must exclude reversible and laboratory causes.

Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
Hypoglycemia is a decrease in blood glucose below the level required by the brain for normal functioning. Typically, the threshold is considered to be 3.9 mmol/L, and values below 3.0 mmol/L are considered a clinically significant decrease. The brain does not know how to store glucose and depends on its constant supply, so symptoms develop quickly: first, the body turns on a defensive reaction with the release of adrenaline - trembling, sweating, palpitations, an acute feeling of hunger appear, then brain functions suffer - speech, coordination, behavior are impaired, up to loss of consciousness and convulsions. Hypoglycemia most often occurs in people with diabetes who are taking insulin or certain blood glucose-lowering medications.

Hypoglycemia of newborns
After the umbilical cord is cut, the baby loses the constant supply of glucose from the mother and must rely on its own supplies. In the first hours of life, the blood sugar level in all newborns naturally decreases, and then recovers due to feeding and liver function. If this transition is disrupted, hypoglycemia develops. It is dangerous because the newborn’s brain feeds primarily on glucose, and prolonged deficiency can damage nerve cells. At the same time, the signs are often erased: lethargy, trembling, poor sucking, rarely convulsions. Therefore, children from risk groups are examined according to the protocol, measuring blood sugar in the first hours and days of life, without waiting for symptoms.

Hypocalcemia (calcium deficiency)
Hypocalcemia is a decrease in blood calcium levels below normal. Calcium is needed not only by bones: it ensures the transmission of nerve impulses, muscle contraction and blood clotting, so when it is lacking, nerves and muscles become overly excitable. Tingling appears around the mouth and in the fingers, painful muscle contractions, and with a pronounced decrease - convulsions and heart rhythm disturbances. The level of calcium in the blood is carefully regulated by parathyroid hormone and vitamin D, and it usually falls not due to a lack of calcium in food, but due to kidney disorders, kidney disease, magnesium deficiency, or after surgery on the thyroid gland.

Hypoparathyroidism
Hypoparathyroidism is a condition in which the parathyroid glands produce too little parathyroid hormone. This hormone keeps blood calcium within a narrow normal range, so when there is a lack of it, calcium falls and phosphorus rises. The body reacts with increased excitability of the nerves and muscles: tingling appears around the mouth and in the fingertips, cramping of the hands, painful cramps, and in severe patients - spasm of the larynx and seizures similar to convulsions. The most common cause is damage to or removal of the parathyroid glands during thyroid surgery. The condition is well controlled with calcium supplements and active forms of vitamin D, but requires constant monitoring and monitoring of tests.

Hypopituitarism
Hypopituitarism is a decreased production of one or more hormones from the pituitary gland, a small gland at the base of the brain that controls the thyroid, adrenal glands, gonads, and growth. When there are not enough command signals, the subordinate glands reduce activity, and complaints appear: constant weakness, chilliness, low blood pressure, decreased libido, cycle disorders, dry skin, and in children - stunted growth. Symptoms are nonspecific and increase slowly, so the disease is often recognized late. The reasons are different: tumors and operations in the pituitary gland, trauma, radiation, blood loss during childbirth, inflammatory processes. The diagnosis is confirmed by tests, and treatment consists of replenishing the missing hormones.

Hypothalamic syndrome
Hypothalamic syndrome is a malfunction of the hypothalamus, a part of the brain that controls metabolism, appetite, body temperature, sleep, blood pressure and the production of pituitary hormones. When its regulation goes wrong, the complaints become varied: rapid weight gain, pink stretch marks on the skin, headaches, pressure surges, sweating, attacks of palpitations and anxiety, cycle disorders in girls, increased fatigue. The condition most often occurs in adolescents and young adults after infections, head injuries or due to stress and obesity. A separate task of the doctor is to exclude diseases with a similar picture, primarily excess cortisol and tumors in this area.

Hypothyroidism during pregnancy
Hypothyroidism during pregnancy is a condition in which the thyroid gland does not produce enough hormones to meet the increased needs of the mother and fetus. In the first trimester, the child is completely dependent on the mother's thyroxine, because his own thyroid gland does not yet work, and hormones are needed for the formation of the brain. Therefore, even a moderate increase in TSH in a pregnant woman requires attention, and not observation “before birth.” The most common cause is autoimmune thyroiditis; less commonly, hypothyroidism occurs after surgery or treatment with radioactive iodine. The condition is easily correctable: the selected dose of the hormone allows most women to have a healthy pregnancy.

Hirsutism (excessive hair growth in women)
Hirsutism is the growth of coarse dark hair in women in areas where they usually appear only in men: above the upper lip, on the chin, around the nipples, along the midline of the abdomen, on the back and inner thighs. The basis is either an excess of male sex hormones or increased sensitivity of the hair follicles to their normal level. Most often, hirsutism is caused by polycystic ovary syndrome, less often by congenital dysfunction of the adrenal cortex, tumors, and the use of certain medications. This is not just a cosmetic problem: it may indicate a hormonal imbalance that affects your cycle, weight and ability to get pregnant.

Diabetic polyneuropathy
Diabetic polyneuropathy is damage to peripheral nerves due to diabetes. Long-term elevated sugar damages the small vessels that feed the nerve fibers and the fibers themselves: the longest nerves are affected first, so the symptoms begin from the feet and rise up like “socks”, later the hands join. A person feels a burning sensation, tingling, chilliness or, conversely, loses sensitivity and ceases to notice injuries and burns. It is the loss of protective sensitivity that underlies diabetic foot ulcers and subsequent amputations. The good news is that controlling your blood sugar, quitting smoking, and checking your feet every day will significantly slow down the process and prevent the worst complications.
