Acetone syndrome in children
Acetone syndrome is repeated episodes of vomiting in children, accompanied by the accumulation of ketone bodies in the blood and urine and a characteristic fruity odor from the mouth. The mechanism is simple: the reserves of carbohydrates in the children's liver are small, and during fasting, infection or stress, the body begins to extract energy from fats, the by-product of which are ketones. They irritate the vomiting center, and a vicious circle arises: the child cannot eat or drink, and there are even more ketones. Most often, episodes occur in preschool-aged children and disappear completely with age.

Itsenko-Cushing disease and syndrome
Itsenko-Cushing syndrome combines conditions in which the body is under the influence of excess cortisol for a long time. The most common reason is taking glucocorticoid hormones in tablets, injections or ointments for other diseases. Own excess of the hormone occurs with a pituitary adenoma that produces ACTH - this is Itsenko-Cushing's disease, with an adrenal tumor or with a tumor of another location that secretes ACTH. Externally, the condition is recognizable: the face becomes round and red, fat is deposited on the body as arms and legs lose weight, wide purple stretch marks appear, blood pressure and sugar increase, muscles weaken, bruises and fractures easily occur.

Secondary (symptomatic) arterial hypertension
Secondary arterial hypertension is an increase in blood pressure that has a specific, removable cause: kidney disease, narrowing of the renal artery, tumor or hyperfunction of the adrenal glands, disruption of the thyroid gland, sleep apnea, and taking certain medications. Unlike hypertension, in which the cause cannot be found, eliminating the source often normalizes blood pressure or sharply reduces the need for pills. This form is suspected when hypertension begins at a young age or after 60 years of age, is severe, difficult to treat, or is accompanied by unusual symptoms. The examination is prescribed by a doctor; taking hormones on your own is pointless.

Galactorrhea (nipple discharge)
Galactorrhea is the discharge of milk or colostrum-like fluid from the nipple in a woman who is not pregnant or breastfeeding, and sometimes in men. Most often, the reason lies not in the mammary gland itself, but in hormones: milk production is stimulated by prolactin, and its excess triggers secretion. Prolactin levels are increased by a pituitary tumor (prolactinoma), decreased thyroid function, a number of medications, and frequent breast stimulation. Galactorrhea is often combined with cycle disorders, difficulties with conception, and decreased libido. The condition itself is not dangerous, but its cause is important to find. Bloody or one-sided discharge is another signal that requires examination by a mammologist.

Gastroparesis
Gastroparesis is a condition in which the stomach empties too slowly, although there is no mechanical obstruction to the exit. Food lingers for hours, stretches the walls and causes heaviness, nausea and early satiety. The reason is a disruption in the functioning of the stomach muscles and the nerves that control them, primarily the vagus nerve. The most common known factor is long-term, poorly controlled diabetes mellitus, but often the cause cannot be determined. Gastroparesis greatly reduces quality of life, interferes with eating, and, in people with diabetes, makes glucose levels unpredictable. The diagnosis is made only by excluding an obstruction in the gastric outlet using endoscopy.

Gestational diabetes mellitus
Gestational diabetes mellitus is an increase in blood glucose levels that is first detected during pregnancy and does not reach the criteria for overt diabetes. Placental hormones reduce tissue sensitivity to insulin, and if the pancreas cannot cope with the increased load, sugar increases. A woman usually does not feel anything, so the diagnosis is made only by tests: fasting venous blood glucose or a glucose tolerance test at 24–28 weeks. Without control, excess glucose leads to a large fetus, complications during childbirth, and hypoglycemia in the newborn. With proper nutrition, sufficient activity and self-control, most pregnancies proceed safely. After childbirth, diabetes usually goes away, but the risk of type 2 diabetes remains increased.

Hyperandrogenism in women
Hyperandrogenism is a condition in which androgens, that is, male sex hormones, act excessively in the female body. A small amount of them is produced in every woman by the ovaries and adrenal glands and is necessary for normal metabolism. Excess is manifested by the growth of coarse dark hair of the male type, persistent acne, oily skin, thinning hair on the head and menstrual irregularities, including difficulties with conception. The reasons are different: most often polycystic ovary syndrome, less often congenital dysfunction of the adrenal cortex, tumors and medications. The examination allows you to find the cause and select treatment.

Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
Hyperhidrosis is sweating that significantly exceeds the body's cooling needs. The sweat glands operate under the control of the autonomic nervous system, and in hyperhidrosis this control is too sensitive. There is a primary form, when strictly defined areas sweat - palms, feet, armpits, face - and a secondary form, when profuse sweat is associated with an illness or medication and occurs throughout the body, including at night. Primary hyperhidrosis usually begins in adolescence and is not life-threatening, but seriously interferes with work and communication. Secondary requires searching for the cause. In both cases there are effective ways to help.

Hyperinsulinism
Hyperinsulinism is a condition in which the pancreas produces excess amounts of insulin. The consequences depend on why it happens. If insulin is released regardless of sugar levels, blood glucose drops, and attacks of hypoglycemia occur: trembling, cold sweat, extreme hunger, palpitations, confusion. If the pancreas is simply forced to work for two due to insulin resistance, the sugar level remains normal for a long time, but increased insulin contributes to weight gain and gradually leads to prediabetes. These are fundamentally different situations with different treatments, and only an endocrinologist can understand them based on the results of the examination.

Hyperparathyroidism
Hyperparathyroidism is a condition in which the parathyroid glands produce too much parathyroid hormone. This hormone increases calcium levels in the blood: it flushes calcium from the bones, enhances absorption in the intestines and changes the functioning of the kidneys. The most common cause is a benign adenoma of one of the four glands - this is primary hyperparathyroidism. Secondary develops as a response to long-term vitamin D deficiency or chronic kidney disease. Typical consequences include kidney stones, decreased bone density and fractures from minor trauma, as well as weakness, thirst, constipation and depressed mood. Today, the disease is more often detected by chance, based on elevated calcium in a biochemical blood test.
