Erythema multiforme exudative
Exudative erythema multiforme is an acute reaction of the skin and mucous membranes, in which characteristic round spots with concentric zones of different colors appear, similar to a target. This is not an allergy in the usual sense, but an immune response to an infection, most often to the herpes simplex virus. The rash occurs symmetrically, starting from the hands and feet and spreading to the center of the body. The condition usually progresses favorably and goes away in two to four weeks, but in some people it recurs after each exacerbation of herpes. The doctor’s main task is to distinguish it from Stevens-Johnson syndrome, which is life-threatening.

Prurigo (prurigo)
Prurigo, or prurigo, is a chronic skin disease in which dense, highly itchy nodules and nodes appear, most often on the extensor surfaces of the arms and legs, on the back and abdomen. The main feature is that the disease maintains itself: itching forces you to scratch the skin, scratching damages the nerve endings and intensifies the itching, and new dense elements form at the site of scratching. Prurigo can occur against the background of atopic dermatitis, as well as with internal diseases - liver and kidney diseases, diabetes, thyroid disorders, iron deficiency, and less often with blood diseases. Therefore, treatment always includes searching for the cause.

Stevens-Johnson syndrome and Lyell's syndrome
Stevens-Johnson syndrome and Lyell's syndrome (toxic epidermal necrolysis) are rare but life-threatening reactions in which the immune system begins to destroy cells of the skin and mucous membranes. Most often they are triggered by medications, less often by infections. First, fever, weakness, pain in the eyes and sore throat appear, then a painful rash, blisters and erosions on the lips, mouth, eyes and genitals. The skin peels off in layers, as if burned. The forms are distinguished by the area of the lesion: up to ten percent of the body surface is Stevens-Johnson syndrome, more than thirty is Lyell's syndrome. The condition requires immediate hospitalization: the main thing is to stop the offending drug as early as possible and begin intensive therapy.

Skin rash
A rash is a change in the skin that differs from normal in color, density or texture. It is not a diagnosis, but a sign: identical-looking rashes can be a manifestation of an allergy, infection, autoimmune process, reaction to a medicine or a bite. For the doctor, not only the type of elements is important, but also their location, order of appearance, the presence of itching, temperature, and general malaise. Most of the rashes are harmless and go away on their own, but there are conditions in which the clock counts: a rash that does not fade when pressed, swelling of the face and difficulty breathing, extensive peeling of the skin. Therefore, if in doubt, it is better to see a doctor.

Photodermatitis (sun allergy)
Photodermatitis, which is commonly called sun allergy, is an inflammation of the skin in response to ultraviolet radiation. There is no real allergy to sunlight: the reaction develops either to the skin’s own proteins modified by ultraviolet radiation, or to substances that get on the skin or are taken orally, which become irritating under the rays. The typical picture is itching, redness and a small rash on exposed areas a few hours after exposure to the sun, often in spring and early summer. The condition is not dangerous, but tends to recur every season. A doctor will help you figure it out: it is important to rule out drug reactions and diseases that also worsen in the sun.

Cold allergy
Cold allergy, or more correctly cold urticaria, is a skin reaction to cooling, in which itchy blisters and swelling appear in exposed areas. The classic name is not entirely accurate: there is no true allergen here, the mast cells of the skin release histamine in response to a physical stimulus - cold air, water, wind, cold objects and drinks. Young people are most often affected, and in most cases the cause cannot be found. Less commonly, urticaria develops after infections or against the background of blood diseases. The main danger is not the rash, but the general reaction when immersed in cold water, so such people should not swim alone.

Exogenous allergic alveolitis
Exogenous allergic alveolitis, or hypersensitivity pneumonitis, is an inflammation of the smallest parts of the lungs in response to regular inhalation of organic dust. The most common culprits are mold fungi in damp rooms and in hay, proteins from bird fluff and droppings, grain and flour dust, humidifiers and air conditioners with stagnant water. The immune reaction affects the alveoli and small bronchi, causing cough, shortness of breath and repeated episodes of malaise with fever. With continued exposure, pulmonary fibrosis develops, so the key to recovery is to find and eliminate the source.

Eosinophilia (increased eosinophils)
Eosinophilia is an increase in eosinophils, blood cells that are involved in allergic reactions and defense against parasites. Moderate elevations are common and are usually explained by allergies, asthma, atopic dermatitis, or a drug reaction. The second large group of causes are parasitic infestations, especially those in which the larvae migrate through tissues. What matters is not so much the percentage as the absolute number of eosinophils and its persistence: a prolonged pronounced increase can damage the heart, lungs and nervous system, and therefore requires examination. Questioning, tests for parasites and an assessment of the allergic background help to understand the cause.

Eosinophilic gastroenteritis
Eosinophilic gastroenteritis is a rare chronic disease in which too many eosinophils accumulate in the wall of the stomach and intestines. These cells are normally involved in protection against parasites and in allergic reactions, but here they damage their own mucosa, causing swelling, spasms and disruption of the organ. Manifestations depend on which layer of the wall is affected: when the mucous membrane is affected, nausea, pain and diarrhea predominate; when the muscular layer is involved, patency may be impaired, and when the outer layer is affected, fluid appears in the abdomen. The disease is often combined with allergies, asthma and food intolerance. The diagnosis is made only by biopsy, and treatment includes diet and medications prescribed by the doctor.

Eosinophilic esophagitis
Eosinophilic esophagitis is a chronic immune inflammation of the esophagus, in which eosinophils, cells involved in allergic reactions, penetrate into its mucosa in large numbers. The triggering factor is most often food proteins, less often inhaled allergens. Due to inflammation, the wall of the esophagus thickens, loses elasticity, rings and narrowings appear. Adults complain of difficulty swallowing and episodes when a piece of food gets stuck, children complain of abdominal pain, vomiting and refusal to eat. A characteristic detail: heartburn in this disease does not respond well to conventional treatment. The diagnosis is made only by biopsy of the esophagus, even if the mucosa appears almost normal.
