Allergy to cosmetics
An allergy to cosmetics is most often allergic contact dermatitis: a delayed immune reaction to a specific component of the product. Manifestations do not appear immediately, but 12–72 hours after contact, so the connection with a new cream or hair dye is not always noticed. The skin turns red, swells, itches, small blisters may appear, then peeling. Irritable dermatitis stands out separately: it occurs faster, without the participation of the immune system, simply from an aggressive composition or too frequent use. An important point: a reaction can develop to a product that you have used for years, because sensitivity develops gradually. The main thing in treatment is to find and remove the culprit component.

Allergy to cats and dogs
An allergy to cats and dogs is a reaction of the immune system not to the fur itself, but to proteins contained in the saliva, skin dander, urine and sebaceous secretions of the animal. Wool only transfers these particles, so there are no truly hypoallergenic breeds. Allergens are very light, stay in the air for a long time and settle on clothing, furniture and carpets, which is why symptoms sometimes appear even where there is no animal. The allergy manifests itself as a runny nose, sneezing, itching of the eyes and nose, coughing, and in some people - attacks of suffocation. The diagnosis is confirmed by skin tests or a blood test for specific antibodies.

Allergy to dust and house dust mites
An allergy to house dust is, in most cases, a reaction not to the dust itself, but to the microscopic mites that live in it, or more precisely to the proteins of their particles. Ticks do not bite and are invisible to the eye; they feed on skin particles and thrive in mattresses, pillows, carpets and soft toys. Since exposure occurs daily, symptoms persist year-round and are worse at night and in the morning, as well as when cleaning and changing the bed. Untreated year-round rhinitis impairs sleep and performance and increases the risk of bronchial asthma, so it is worth dealing with it seriously.

Allergy to insect bites
The bite of a bee, wasp, hornet or mosquito in most people causes the usual local reaction: pain, redness and swelling of several centimeters, which disappears in one to two days. Allergies are said to occur when the reaction clearly goes beyond these limits. There is a major local reaction - swelling of more than 10 centimeters, lasting longer than a day, and a systemic allergic reaction in which the entire body suffers: hives appear throughout the body, swelling of the face and larynx, shortness of breath, drop in pressure. The latter is life-threatening and requires immediate help. People with a history of this reaction should carry doctor-prescribed first aid supplies.

Allergies in children
An allergy is an excessive reaction of the immune system to usually harmless substances: food proteins, plant pollen, house dust mites, animal fur, mold, insect venom, and, less commonly, medications. In children, it manifests itself in different ways: rash and itching, prolonged runny nose without fever, night cough and wheezing, abdominal pain and loose stools in children. Some forms go away with age, such as cow's milk protein allergy, while others remain for a long time. The key to treatment is to pinpoint the culprit allergen and remove exposure to it, rather than putting your child on a pointlessly strict diet just in case.

Atopic dermatitis in infants
Atopic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that most often begins in the first year of life. In infants, it manifests itself as redness, peeling and weeping on the cheeks, forehead, outer surfaces of the arms and legs, and the main symptom is itching, which causes the child to worry and sleep poorly. The basis is a violation of the skin's protective barrier: it loses moisture and easily allows irritants to pass through. The tendency is inherited, and exacerbations are provoked by dry air, hard water, sweat, woolen clothes and soap. The disease is not contagious, and in most children it becomes milder over time. The basis of treatment is not pills, but daily moisturizing of the skin and timely relief of inflammation as prescribed by the doctor.

Bronchial asthma in children
Bronchial asthma in children is a chronic inflammation of the airways, in which the bronchi become too sensitive and narrow in response to irritants. Wheezing, difficulty exhaling, paroxysmal coughing and a feeling of lack of air appear. Symptoms come and go, often worsening at night, in the morning, with physical activity, in cold air and during colds. In children, asthma is very closely related to allergies and is often combined with atopic dermatitis and allergic rhinitis. Asthma cannot be treated once, but is well controlled: with properly selected therapy, the child lives, studies and plays sports on an equal basis with his peers.

Bronchospasm
Bronchospasm is a sharp contraction of muscles in the walls of the bronchi, due to which the lumen of the airways narrows and air ceases to flow freely from the lungs. The spasm is almost always accompanied by swelling of the mucous membrane and viscous sputum, so breathing becomes noisy and whistling, and exhalation becomes long and difficult. This is not an independent disease, but a syndrome: it occurs with bronchial asthma, obstructive bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, allergic reaction, inhalation of irritants. Mild bronchospasm goes away on its own, but severe bronchospasm is life-threatening and requires immediate help, so it is important to be able to recognize it and know what to do.

Vasomotor and medicinal rhinitis
Vasomotor rhinitis is a non-allergic chronic runny nose, in which the vessels of the nasal mucosa react too strongly to common irritants: cold air, strong odors, smoke, spicy foods, stress. The mucous membrane swells, congestion and watery discharge appear, although there is no infection or allergy. Drug-induced rhinitis is a similar condition that develops with prolonged use of vasoconstrictor drops: the vessels stop constricting on their own, and the nose does not breathe without the next dose. Both conditions are not life-threatening, but they impair sleep, cause snoring, headaches and reduce quality of life. Dependence on drops can be eliminated, and vasomotor rhinitis is successfully controlled with the help of treatment selected by an ENT doctor.

Contact dermatitis
Contact dermatitis is an inflammation of the skin where it comes into contact with an external substance. It comes in two main types. Simple, or irritant, occurs in any person with frequent or strong exposure to irritants: water, detergents, solvents, acids. Allergies develop only in people whose immune systems have become sensitive to a certain substance, such as nickel, fragrances, cosmetic preservatives or hair dye. It manifests itself as redness, itching, swelling and blisters, and in chronic cases - dryness and cracks. The disease is not contagious and not life-threatening, but can seriously interfere with work. The main thing in treatment is to find and eliminate the culprit substance.
