How does the scheme work?
Before the first injection, the andrologist confirms the diagnosis (two morning tests of testosterone, LH, PSA, hematocrit) and excludes contraindications. The drug is heated to body temperature and injected deep into the gluteal muscle slowly, over 2 minutes; The patient remains under observation for 20–30 minutes. Standard regimen: second injection after 6 weeks, then every 10–14 weeks; the interval is adjusted according to testosterone levels before the next injection. After 3 months and then every 6–12 months, testosterone, hematocrit, PSA are monitored, and in case of complaints, lipids and liver tests are monitored. The effect is improvement in libido, erection, mood, muscle mass and bone density within 3-6 months.
Who is testosterone therapy indicated for?
Replacement therapy is prescribed for confirmed hypogonadism - a decrease in testosterone with symptoms: decreased libido and erection, fatigue, loss of muscle mass, fat gain, depression, osteoporosis, anemia. The causes are primary damage to the testicles (Klinefelter syndrome, orchitis, trauma, orchiectomy) or pituitary gland, as well as age-related androgen deficiency. The diagnosis is made only by tests done twice in the morning on an empty stomach.
Why Nebido
Nebido is a long-acting drug: one injection maintains physiological testosterone levels for 10-14 weeks without the peaks and valleys characteristic of short-acting esters and without the need for daily application of gels. It is administered strictly intramuscularly slowly to exclude pulmonary oil microembolism (a rare complication manifested by coughing at the time of injection), so the injection is performed by a doctor with subsequent observation. Contraindications: prostate and breast cancer, increased hematocrit, severe sleep apnea, planning conception (testosterone suppresses spermatogenesis).
