Who is prescribed
- delayed motor development: the child does not hold his head up, does not sit, does not stand up, does not walk on time;
- cerebral palsy - work on support and movement;
- consequences of perinatal damage to the central nervous system;
- decreased muscle tone, insufficient postural control;
- disturbances of balance and coordination.
How is it different from regular gymnastics?
In classical exercise therapy, movement is often performed with the help of an adult or by demonstration. In MEDEK, the exercise is structured in such a way that the child is forced to support himself - the necessary muscle reaction is caused by the conditions of support, and not by the request to “tighten your back.” Therefore, the method is also used for children who do not yet understand the instructions or cannot follow them voluntarily.
What is important for a parent to know
The classes look active, and the child often protests at the beginning of the course: the position is unusual and requires effort. This is not a sign of pain, but the specialist is obliged to monitor the reaction and dose the load. The method is not used in acute conditions, joint instability, fresh injuries and without the opinion of a specialized doctor. MEDEK is part of a rehabilitation program, and not a replacement for observation by a neurologist and orthopedist.
