Clavicle fracture
A clavicle fracture is one of the most common skeletal injuries. It usually occurs when falling on the shoulder or outstretched arm, in sports and during road accidents; In newborns, the collarbone sometimes breaks during childbirth. The collarbone connects the sternum to the scapula and holds the shoulder in the correct position, so when a fracture occurs, the arm seems to fall forward and down, and any movement causes sharp pain. The middle third of the bone is most often affected. Most of these fractures heal without surgery in a bandage within a few weeks. Surgical treatment is necessary for significant displacement, damage to the skin and neurovascular bundle, or nonunion.

Coccyx fracture
The coccyx is a small section of several fused vertebrae at the very bottom of the spine. The muscles and ligaments of the pelvic floor are attached to it, so even a small injury causes noticeable pain. A fracture of the coccyx most often occurs when falling on the buttocks - on ice, on stairs, while skating, as well as during childbirth with a narrow pelvis or a large fetus. It is impossible to distinguish a fracture from a severe bruise by sensation; both injuries cause pain when sitting and standing up. There is usually no fundamental difference in treatment: the tailbone is not fixed with a plaster, but is helped with pain relief and unloading. Another important thing is to exclude a fracture of the sacrum and damage to the pelvis.

Fracture of the shin bones
The lower leg is formed by two bones: the tibia, which bears the main load, and the thin fibula. A fracture most often occurs due to a road injury, a fall from a height, in skiing and contact sports, as well as when a leg is twisted with a fixed foot. The tibia is covered over a large area only by skin, so its fractures are often open and heal less well due to the poor blood supply. The victim cannot step on his leg, the lower leg swells and becomes deformed. Treatment depends on the nature of the fracture: if it is stable, plaster immobilization is possible; if it is displaced or comminuted, osteosynthesis is performed with a pin, plate or external fixation device.

Pelvic fracture
The pelvis is a strong bone ring that transfers the weight of the body to the legs and protects the bladder, rectum, large vessels and nerve trunks. To break it in a young person, a very strong force is needed: an accident, a fall from a height, being crushed. In older people with osteoporosis, a fracture of the pubic or ischial bone can also occur with a simple fall on the side. The main danger is not in the bone itself, but in the fact that a rich venous network and arteries run near the fracture site: blood loss can be massive and invisible from the outside. Therefore, a pelvic fracture is always considered potentially life-threatening and is examined in a hospital.

Fracture of the scaphoid bone of the wrist
The scaphoid is a small bone in the wrist at the base of the thumb that breaks when falling onto an outstretched hand. This is the most common fracture of the wrist bones and at the same time the most insidious: the pain is moderate, the swelling is small, the hand as a whole works, so the injury is mistaken for a sprain and is not treated. Meanwhile, the blood supply to the scaphoid goes in the opposite direction - from the far end to the near end, and during a fracture, part of the bone is left without power. Without timely fixation, the fracture does not heal, a false joint forms, and then arthrosis of the wrist develops. Therefore, pain in the wrist after falling on your hand always requires the attention of a doctor.

Fracture of the olecranon
The olecranon is the bony protrusion of the ulna that we feel under the skin when we lean on the elbow. The triceps brachii muscle, which extends the arm, is attached to it. When falling on an elbow or an outstretched arm, the process breaks, and the pull of the muscle pulls the fragments to the sides. A person can bend his arm, but cannot actively straighten it and keep it suspended - this is a key sign. Since the process is part of the elbow joint, precise restoration of its surface is required, otherwise arthrosis and limitation of movements will develop. Therefore, displaced fractures are almost always operated on, and after surgery, early development of the joint is mandatory.

Scapula fracture
The shoulder blade is a flat bone, covered on all sides by powerful muscles and movably sliding along the chest. That is why it is not easy to break: a fracture of the scapula makes up a small proportion of all fractures and usually occurs with a very high energy trauma - an accident, a fall from a height, a strong direct blow. Hence the main feature: almost always there are other, more dangerous injuries nearby - rib fractures, lung contusion, pneumothorax, spinal and head injuries. The scapula itself, thanks to its muscular sheath, often grows together without surgery. The doctor’s task is not to miss associated injuries and to correctly assess whether the articular cavity and processes are affected.

Patella fracture
The patella is a small bone inside the quadriceps femoris tendon that acts as a pulley and increases knee extension. It usually breaks with a direct blow to the bent knee: falling on a hard surface, hitting the dashboard in a car, or less often with a powerful contraction of a muscle that literally tears the bone. A distinctive sign is the inability to straighten the leg or keep it straight in weight. The knee quickly fills with blood, becomes tight and painful. If the fragments are not separated, the fracture is treated with an orthosis; if they are separated, they are operated on, because without restoration of the extensor apparatus, normal walking is impossible.

Fracture of the lower jaw
The lower jaw is the only movable bone of the face, and it breaks more often than other bones of the facial skeleton. The main reason is a blow to the face during a fight, fall, sports injury or traffic accident. Due to its horseshoe shape, the jaw often breaks in two places at once: at the point of impact and on the opposite side. The main sign of a fracture is a malocclusion: the teeth stop closing as usual, pain appears when opening the mouth and chewing. The danger is not only associated with the bone: fragments can displace the tongue and impair breathing, and the fracture line in the dentition is actually open and requires infection prevention. Treatment usually begins on the first day.

Nose fracture
A nasal fracture is a disruption of the integrity of the bones of the back of the nose, most often after a blow, fall or sports injury. This is the most common facial fracture because the nasal bones are thin and protrude. Immediately after the injury, pain, bleeding, rapid swelling and bruising around the eyes appear, due to which the displacement is not noticeable. The main danger is not the fracture itself, but the fact that improperly fused fragments permanently change the shape of the nose and impair breathing, and an unrecognized hematoma of the septum can lead to its destruction. Therefore, you need to visit an ENT doctor in the first days, while simple reposition is possible.
