Huntington's disease
Huntington's disease is a hereditary brain disease in which neurons gradually die in the deep structures responsible for controlling movement, emotions and thinking. The classic triad includes chorea - involuntary rapid sweeping movements that a person often disguises as gestures, changes in character and mood, and a gradual decline in memory and ability to plan. The disease is transmitted in an autosomal dominant manner: each child of an affected parent has a fifty percent chance of inheriting the mutation, regardless of gender. The first signs usually appear between 30 and 50 years. There is no treatment to stop the process yet, but the symptoms can be significantly alleviated.

Meniere's disease
Meniere's disease is a disease of the inner ear associated with excessive accumulation of fluid in its cavities. It is manifested by repeated attacks: sudden severe rotational dizziness, which lasts from twenty minutes to several hours, accompanied by nausea and vomiting, noise and a feeling of fullness in the ear, as well as hearing loss. Between attacks, the person feels satisfactory, but over time, hearing on the affected side steadily deteriorates. Usually one ear is affected, most often in middle-aged adults. It is not yet possible to completely cure the disease, but proper treatment and regimen can significantly reduce the frequency and severity of attacks.

Parkinson's disease
Parkinson's disease is a chronic, progressive disease in which the neurons that produce dopamine gradually die. Due to a lack of dopamine, movement control is impaired: slowness, stiffness and characteristic trembling appear. An important feature of the disease is that its first manifestations are often not motor at all - impaired sense of smell, constipation, and restless sleep can appear years before the tremor. The disease cannot yet be cured, but modern therapy controls the symptoms well and maintains independence for many years.

Chest pain
Chest pain is one of the most alarming complaints, and this is justified: it can be caused by either a harmless muscle spasm or a myocardial infarction. The chest contains the heart and large vessels, lungs and pleura, esophagus, ribs, muscles and nerves, so the source of pain is determined by its nature, duration and connection with exercise, breathing, movement and food intake. Pressing pain behind the sternum when walking, radiating to the arm or jaw, requires immediate help. Stitching pain, which intensifies when turning the torso or applying pressure, is most often associated with the muscles and ribs. The main rule is simple: if the pain occurs for the first time, is very severe or is accompanied by shortness of breath, call 103 rather than wait.

Pain in the thoracic spine (thoracalgia)
Thoracalgia is pain in the thoracic spine and chest associated with its joints, muscles, ligaments or nerve roots. It can be dull and aching between the shoulder blades, or it can shoot along the ribs, intensifying when inhaling, coughing and turning the body. Most often, the cause is benign: muscle overload, prolonged slouching posture, arthrosis of the costovertebral joints. But it is in this area that pain can easily be confused with cardiac, pulmonary or gastric pain, and sometimes it is the first sign of a vertebral fracture in osteoporosis. Therefore, it is always worth showing a doctor if you experience chest pain for the first time.

Wrist and hand pain
Pain in the wrist and hand is a very common complaint, with a variety of different causes behind it. The hand is complex: eight small carpal bones, many joints, tendons in narrow channels and nerves passing through tight spaces. Therefore, pain can come from a joint, tendon, nerve or ligament, and treatment is different in each case. The most common overload conditions occur in people who work a lot with their hands and at the keyboard: tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger. Injuries are considered separately, especially a fall on an outstretched arm, in which it is easy to miss a fracture of the scaphoid, and systemic joint diseases.

Shoulder pain
The shoulder joint is the most mobile joint in the body, and for this mobility it pays with vulnerability. It is held not so much by bones as by the muscles and tendons of the rotator cuff, which are easily overloaded by work with raised arms, sports or monotonous movements. Therefore, most cases of shoulder pain are not related to the joint itself, but to the surrounding soft tissues. But pain in the shoulder can also be referred: it is caused by the cervical spine, gall bladder, lungs and heart. It helps to understand the source of how exactly the pain changes when you move your arm and neck.

Pain in the heart
The complaint “heart pain” is heard very often, but real heart pain looks different than it is usually imagined. Classic ischemic pain is not a pinpoint tingling sensation on the left, but a pressure or burning sensation in the center of the chest that occurs during exercise, lasts several minutes and goes away with rest. Tingling in the nipple area, which gets worse when you turn your body or take a deep breath, is much more likely to be associated with the ribs, muscles and nerves. However, you should not diagnose yourself: arrhythmias, pericarditis, high blood pressure and anxiety give similar sensations. The first step is always the same - an ECG and a doctor’s examination.

Back pain
Most adults experience back pain at least once in their lives. In the vast majority of cases, it is nonspecific: the source is the muscles, ligaments and small joints of the spine, and not a hernia or “displacement of the vertebrae.” Such pain usually decreases significantly within a few weeks, and the main thing in its treatment is not bed rest, but maintaining feasible activity. It is much more important to recognize rare dangerous causes in time: fracture, infection, tumor, compression of nerve roots. They are the ones the doctor's examination is aimed at, and they are the ones who determine whether images are needed.

Back pain during pregnancy
Back pain during pregnancy is one of the most common complaints, especially in the second half of the term. The reasons are clear: the uterus grows, the center of gravity shifts, the deflection of the lower back increases, and the hormone relaxin softens the pelvic ligaments, making the joints more mobile. Added weight gain, weakness of the abdominal muscles and a long stay in one position. In most cases, such pain is not dangerous and responds well to simple measures: correct posture, exercise, a warm shower and a supportive bandage. However, there are situations when back pain signals a problem that requires urgent medical attention.
