Which women give birth to sons: scientists have determined
Reproductive biologist Valerie Grant's research yields surprising results.
It's all about the amount of testosterone.
A group of scientists led by reproductive biologist Valerie Grant came to the conclusion that a certain type of woman is prone to giving birth to boys. Experts have concluded that a woman’s likelihood of having a son is related to the level of testosterone in her body.
This project lasted for 20 years. As part of the study, women took a survey about what emotions they felt in certain situations (decisiveness, anger, pride, self-satisfaction). The testosterone levels in the blood of the women who took part in the experiment were also measured.
Testosterone is commonly called the “male” hormone, but it is also present in a certain concentration in the body of the fairer sex. In particular, according to Valerie Grant, women who are self-confident, persistent and strong in character are distinguished by high concentrations of testosterone.
A biologist's study showed that it is precisely such women who are powerful and strive for leadership, whose bodies have elevated levels of testosterone, who more often give birth to sons rather than daughters.
“Testosterone levels in women’s follicles most accurately predict the sex of the unborn fetus,” Dr. Grant said.
