"SLEEP LABORATORY" at the VITAMED MEDICAL clinic
The VITAMED MEDICAL clinic has created a “SLEEP LABORATORY”, where diagnostic studies are carried out in sleep, such as: EEG video monitoring (VEM), polysomnography (PSG) and SOMNOcheck micro.
EEG video monitoring (VEM) is a synchronous recording of the bioelectrical activity of the brain (EEG - electroencephalography) and a video image of the patient.
VEM is one of the mandatory diagnostic methods for suspected epilepsy (convulsive seizures).
A typical study is done, at best, in 15-30 minutes. With such a duration, epileptiform activity and epileptic seizures are sometimes missed, which leads to inappropriate drug prescriptions. Such errors can lead to an increase in epileptic seizures or even the development of status epilepticus.
In addition, there are seizures (paroxysms) that are not epileptic. Although they resemble epileptic attacks, they still have, for example, a psychogenic nature, etc. In such cases, thanks to EEG video monitoring, doctors are able to recognize the nature of the attacks, and in the absence of epilepsy, cancel or not prescribe antiepileptic drugs. Thus, the main significance of this study is the differential diagnosis of epileptic and non-epileptic disorders.
Polysomnography (PSG) - this method allows you to record various body functions during night sleep, which allows you to identify disorders associated with sleep disturbances. For example, 30% of the adult population snores in their sleep. Snoring can be one of the symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (stopping breathing during sleep), which leads to acute or chronic lack of oxygen during sleep.
SOMNOcheck micro – also allows you to determine whether the patient has a breathing disorder; makes it easy to carry out screening examinations at home.
The emergence of sleep research methods has made it possible not only to successfully identify sleep disorders, but also to find new ways to treat sleep-related diseases.
