What physical activity reduces the risk of cancer?

Scientists have known about the relationship between the level of physical activity and the risk of cancer for a long time. For example, back in 2014, American scientists studied the results of 43 scientific studies and found that a sedentary lifestyle greatly increases the likelihood of developing cancer. However, employees of the National Cancer Institute and some American universities are confident that the development of cancer is stopped only with a certain physical activity. To identify the optimal intensity of physical exercise, scientists once again studied the results of scientific work of other groups of researchers and came to very interesting and useful conclusions for all of us.

A new study on physical activity and cancer risk was published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology. In the course of scientific work, American scientists received at their disposal the results of nine studies of this kind, which took into account data from at least 750,000 people. In particular, scientists had information about the degree of daily activity of study participants and their health status. As you should understand, in a particular case, scientists were interested in people’s predisposition to cancer.

Sport can save you from cancer

As it turns out, physically active people are actually less likely to get cancer. Thus, during the study, scientists found that in active people the risk of colon cancer is reduced by 8%, breast cancer by 10% and liver cancer by 27%. It is noteworthy that to achieve such results, people do not need to exhaust themselves with training in the gym. Researchers are confident that to protect against cancer, it is enough to perform moderate-intensity physical exercise at least 2.5 hours a week. But doing strenuous physical activity also has benefits, and in this case, you can exercise for just more than an hour a week.

But what is the difference between moderate-intensity exercise and heavy exercise? Citing the World Health Organization, scientists explained that moderate exercise includes brisk walking, dancing, cleaning the house and even playing with pets. High-intensity exercise, in turn, includes running, high-speed cycling, football and hockey, as well as other serious sports.

Thus, scientists have once again proven the benefits of an active lifestyle. Even if you don't have the opportunity to go to the gym, city pool or various sports sections, you still need to stay active every day. Regular house cleaning, walking the dog and even banal dancing alone can save you from fatal diseases.
