How not to treat the flu - the answer of an experienced doctor
The season of increased incidence of influenza and acute respiratory diseases began in October, but the first “wave” is expected in January. How to best treat influenza and acute respiratory infections, as well as what you need to remember, site "Today"says experienced infectious disease doctor, candidate of medical sciences Ruslan Marachkovsky.
When treating influenza, you should adhere to the following rules:
- Frequent ventilation of premises and wet cleaning, optimal temperature – 20°C above zero, humidity – 50-70%;
- Drink plenty of fluids (warm fruit drinks, tea, compote), children should not be forced to eat;
- Using saline solutions for instillation into the nasal passages (a teaspoon of salt per 0.5 water at room temperature);
- If the elevated temperature is not tolerated, use antipyretics. You can also take combined anti-influenza drugs (children should absolutely not take aspirin);
- In medicine, there is no evidence base for the effectiveness of distracting procedures, so mustard plasters, cupping, rubbing and steam inhalations will not help in treating the flu;
- Expectorant medications, including herbal ones, only intensify symptoms in case of damage to the upper respiratory tract, and in case of damage to the lower respiratory tract, treatment should be prescribed by a doctor;
-
Antiallergic drugs, antibiotics, interferons and their stimulants of endogenous production, and homeopathic drugs are not used in the treatment of influenza and acute respiratory infections.
