Hysteroscopy at the VITAMED MEDICAL clinic

In modern gynecology, hysteroscopy is the leading instrumental method for diagnosing the condition of the endometrium.

Hysteroscopy is an examination during which the doctor, through the woman’s vagina, inserts a small video camera into the uterine cavity, which allows him to examine the inner surface of the cervix and uterine cavity and, if necessary, perform some operations without incisions and stitches.

Hysteroscopy allows you to study with a high degree of accuracy the condition of the mucous membrane of the uterine body, the mouths of the fallopian tubes, and detect pathological formations in the uterine cavity (submucosal nodes of fibroids, endometrial polyps, cancer of the mucous membrane, retained fragments of the chorion or fetus after artificial or spontaneous termination of pregnancy, placental tissue).

 Hysteroscopy makes it possible to clarify the indications for resectoscopy or radical surgical treatment.

Advantages of hysteroscopy over “blind curettage”:

  • low morbidity,
  • minimal incidence of complications,
  • diagnostic accuracy reaching 100%,
  • possibility of outpatient treatment,
  • possibility of taking a targeted biopsy.

A doctor may prescribe a hysteroscopy if the following factors are present:

  • bleeding in postmenopause (an absolute indication for hysteroscopy, since in postmenopause precancerous changes can be focal in nature and form against the background of atrophic mucosa);
  • infertility;
  • failed IVF;
  • miscarriage;
  • suspicion of endometrial pathology;
  • endometrial polyps;
  • suspicion of submucosal uterine fibroids;
  • abnormalities of the uterus;
  • fusion (adhesions) in the uterine cavity;
  • preparation for pregnancy after myomectomy, uterine perforation to assess the consistency of the scar;
  • unsuccessful attempts to remove the intrauterine contraceptive;
  • monitoring the effectiveness of therapy for hyperplastic processes (control study after drug therapy, after instrumental termination of pregnancy);
  • control examination of the uterine cavity after previous operations on the uterus, hydatidiform mole, chorionepithelioma;
  • and also, for the purpose of treatment, if necessary, to eliminate: remnants of the placenta in the uterus after childbirth, adhesions in the uterine cavity, to remove fibroids and polyps in the uterine cavity.

At the VITAMED MEDICAL clinic, examinations are carried out using a hysteroscope from KarlStorz, Germany.
