WHAT IS KIG?

WHAT IS KIG?

Functional diagnostics doctor at the VITAMED MEDICAL clinic Feruza Kasymovna Yakubova will tell you about this in this article.

The first spaceships, starting with Yuri Gagarin, were controlled by cosmonauts independently. But a person, even with many years of training, could simply pass out due to excessive overload. And it was necessary to understand at what moment to take control from the astronaut and turn on the automation.

Among many methods for determining the threshold for disruption of the body's functioning, cardiointervalography, or more simply, CIG, was also proposed. This method is based on the concept of R.M. Baevsky (1968), who actively worked at Roscosmos, and after the collapse of the USSR, at NASA. It was he who studied the adaptive-compensatory reactions of the body under normal conditions and in pathology by assessing the autonomic balance—the balance of the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems.

The first kind of “gas pedal” for the body, the bursts of strength we experience, are the work of the sympathetic system. Increasing the load requires a higher level of body functioning and, therefore, a higher degree of tension. The action of stress factors causes a consistent series of reactions in the body: arousal–overexcitation (overexertion)–adaptation–fatigue–exhaustion. When human resources are used up, the parasympathetic system turns on, which has an inhibitory effect on the body. The normal functioning of the body depends on the balance of these two systems.

Cardiointervalography allows you to determine the level of physiological and psychological stress of a person and the supply of vitality, i.e. initial autonomic tone and autonomic reactivity (reaction to stress). The method is attractive due to its simplicity, painlessness and safety.

CIG is indicated for both adults and children in the presence of malfunctions of the gastrointestinal tract, pain in the heart, weather dependence, lability of blood pressure and pulse, excessive sweating, weakness, and fatigue. Used for screening in sports medicine.

It is advisable to conduct the study in the first half of the day; no earlier than two hours after eating. Registration of CIG is carried out as follows: in a lying position, one of the leads of the electrocardiogram is recorded for a long time, then recorded after the patient moves to a vertical position. After the recording, the same lengthy measurements and complex mathematical calculations carried out by the doctor begin.

CIG is not the only method for assessing the functioning of systems regulating the physiological functions of the body, but it is the “richest” in terms of the amount of information received. Indicators of CIG in a healthy person under normal conditions are constant. Changed CIG values are a signal of pathology or there is tension in adaptive-compensatory mechanisms, which allows the doctor to choose timely treatment tactics.
