The future stroke victim's eyes give away

The eyes are a mirror not only of the soul, doctors note, but also of the entire body. Even by their appearance (not to mention their condition), an experienced specialist will be able to suspect diseases that are not directly related to vision.

Many people do not perceive visual defects as diseases. What's strange about this? After all, every third person on the planet suffers from myopia (also known as myopia). At the same time, even those who are well aware that their vision is far from ideal are often in no hurry to see an ophthalmologist. But, as you know, the disease is much easier to treat at the initial stage. Therefore, the general recommendation - to check the condition of your body once a year - also applies to the eyes.

Experts say that in some cases, myopia (if left unchecked) can lead to very dangerous consequences. The matter can even end with thinning and rupture of the retina, its detachment with loss of vision.

But you need to visit an ophthalmologist on a regular basis not only for this. Your eyes can warn you of misfortunes that are already threatening you. Here are the most common ones.

1. Increased levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood

If the level of these substances in the blood increases, the risk of developing a heart attack increases significantly. A characteristic sign of this deviation helps to identify the problem and begin treatment on time - a gray ring around the cornea, which is scientifically called a corneal arc.

2. Skin cancer

Malignant neoplasms can appear in the most unexpected places, even on the skin of the eyelids. Because of them, non-healing ulcers form and eyelashes fall out, which should be a serious cause for concern. Although basal cell skin cancer is rarely fatal (only if it metastasizes), it can develop into a noticeable physical defect.

3. High blood pressure

It is known to carry a risk of stroke. An ophthalmologist can identify the problem by examining the retina and assessing the condition of the fundus vessels.

4. Marfan syndrome

This congenital hereditary disease is characterized by a lack of connective tissue in the body. It is very important to detect it as early as possible, because SM leads to the development of heart defects and damage to the walls of blood vessels, and this is life-threatening (it was Marfan syndrome that caused the death of the famous volleyball player Flo Hyman).

The main signs are: tall stature, thinness and unusually thin fingers, but sometimes the disease is detected by ophthalmologists by the so-called setting sun syndrome (when the iris of the eye is almost half hidden by the lower eyelid).
