February 15th is International Children's Day with Cancer

International Childhood Cancer Day is celebrated on February 15 every year by many countries around the world.

This Day was announced in Luxembourg in September 2001 during the annual meeting of the International Confederation of Childhood Cancer Parent Organisations.

The first International Day of Children with Cancer was held in 2002.

The main goal of the International Day of Children with Cancer is to raise the level of awareness among pediatricians, the entire professional medical community, and socially responsible citizens of all specialties about the successes and problems of pediatric oncology.

Timely diagnosis is considered the key to successful treatment of cancer. If the disease is detected in the first or second stages, treatment often leads to a favorable outcome. However, a tenth of cancer cases are detected only at the third stage, and in eight percent of children it is diagnosed only at the fourth stage. Another difficulty lies in the fact that there are a lot of forms of oncology - about 200, and the disease can begin in almost any organ. Children are most often affected by leukemia, or blood cancer.

Early diagnosis of malignant neoplasms in children is difficult; Often a cancerous tumor is detected when the disease has developed to the third stage, and in some children therapy begins at the fourth stage. Cases when the diagnosis of cancer is made during a preventive examination are rare. That is why experts recommend regular medical examinations and examinations of babies. At the same time, it is important for parents to pay attention in time to the appearance of unusual signs and symptoms in the child, which may include the presence of swelling or tumor formation, pale skin and increased fatigue, unexplained bruising, pain or limping, as well as prolonged fever, frequent headaches and vomiting, unexpected blurred vision, rapid weight loss.

Many malignant tumors in children arise at a very early age. The cause of most malignant tumors in young patients still remains unclear.

Be healthy and take care of your loved ones!
