Pediculosis (lice)
Pediculosis is an infestation with lice, small wingless insects that live on human skin and feed on blood. Head lice are most common, especially in children 5–12 years old and in organized groups. Lice do not jump or fly, but crawl through close contact head to head, and less often through combs, elastic bands, hats and pillows. Infestation has nothing to do with cleanliness: both clean and dirty hair are equally suitable for lice. The main complaint is itching of the scalp, especially behind the ears and on the back of the head. Pediculosis can be easily treated at home, but it is important to carry out the treatment correctly and repeat it on time.

Diaper dermatitis
Diaper dermatitis is an inflammation of the skin in the area covered by the diaper: the buttocks, groin, genitals and lower abdomen. It is very common in young children, especially in the second half of the first year of life. The reason is prolonged contact of the skin with urine and feces, moisture, friction and violation of its protective layer. Damaged skin is easily infected by Candida fungi and bacteria. Dermatitis usually goes away within a few days with proper care: frequent diaper changes, air baths and protective creams. If the rash does not improve within 3 days, spreads, or blisters and pustules appear, the child should be shown to a pediatrician.

Bend (deformation) of the gallbladder
A bend, or deformation, of the gallbladder is a change in its shape, which is detected by ultrasound: the bladder is curved in the neck or body, has a constriction or an S-shape. This conclusion frightens many parents and adults, but in most cases, the bend is a congenital anatomical feature or a temporary change in shape when the bladder overflows and a change in body position. It is not a disease in itself, does not require treatment and does not interfere with the flow of bile. Only those cases where there are typical complaints or the deformity is combined with stones, inflammation or impaired contractile function deserve attention.

Pyelonephritis in children
Pyelonephritis in children is a bacterial inflammation of the kidney tissue and pelvis, the most serious form of urinary tract infection in childhood. Bacteria, most often E. coli, rise from the bladder up the ureter. The main sign is a high temperature without a runny nose or cough; in young children this is often the only sign. The danger is that repeated episodes can leave scars in the kidney tissue and subsequently lead to hypertension and decreased kidney function. Therefore, if a child has an unexplained fever, a urine test is required, and treatment begins quickly.

Pyeelectasis in children
Pyeelectasia is an enlargement of the renal pelvis, which is most often discovered accidentally on ultrasound in a fetus or in an infant. This in itself is not a diagnosis or a disease, but a finding that indicates that the flow of urine from the kidney may be obstructed. In most children, mild pyeelectasis disappears on its own during the first or second year of life as the urinary tract grows. However, in some children there is an obstruction to the outflow or backflow of urine from the bladder, and then further examination and observation by a urologist is needed to preserve kidney function.

Pyloric stenosis in children
Pyloric stenosis is a congenital narrowing of the gastric outlet due to thickening of the pyloric muscle. Food cannot pass into the intestines, accumulates in the stomach and is regurgitated. The disease does not appear immediately after birth, but in the third to sixth week of life: regurgitation first appears, which quickly turns into profuse vomiting in a fountain without any admixture of bile. The child remains hungry and immediately asks for food, but stops gaining weight and then loses it. Due to the constant loss of gastric juice, the balance of salts and acidity of the blood is disrupted. The condition is completely curable, but requires surgery, so if you experience such vomiting, you should consult a doctor without delay.

Flat valgus foot in children
A flatfoot is a condition in which the longitudinal arch is flattened and the heel is deviated outward, causing the foot to roll inward. In children, this is most often a developmental option, and not a disease: until the age of three to five, the arch is not formed in almost everyone, it is covered by a fatty pad, and the ligaments remain soft. As muscles grow, strengthen, and coordination develops, the arch forms independently in most children. It is not flat feet themselves that require treatment, but those cases where there is pain, fatigue, the foot is rigid and does not change shape when rising on the toes, or there are neurological disorders.

Child has poor appetite
Poor appetite in a child is one of the most common causes of anxiety for parents, and in the vast majority of cases there is no illness behind it. After a year, growth rates slow down sharply, and the need for food naturally decreases: a one-year-old baby needs much fewer calories per kilogram of weight than an infant. Children eat unevenly - today a lot, tomorrow almost nothing, and it is necessary to evaluate not one plate, but a week. The main guideline is not the amount of food eaten, but weight and height gain, activity and well-being. Real problems reveal themselves as weight loss, lethargy, pallor or other symptoms, and then you need a pediatrician.

Pneumococcal infection
Pneumococcus is a bacterium that often lives in the nasopharynx of healthy people, especially children, without causing any complaints. But when the protection is weakened, for example after a viral infection, it spreads to neighboring organs and causes otitis media, sinusitis, bronchitis and pneumonia, and in severe cases penetrates the blood and membranes of the brain. Pneumococcus remains one of the main causes of community-acquired pneumonia and purulent meningitis in young children and the elderly. The disease is treated with antibiotics, but resistance to them is growing, and severe forms develop quickly. The most reliable measure of protection is vaccination of children and adults from risk groups.

Pneumonia (pneumonia) in children
