Trichocephalosis (whipworm)
Trichocephalosis is an intestinal helminthiasis caused by the roundworm whipworm. It got its name because of its shape: the front part of the body is thin, like a hair, and is embedded in the mucous membrane of the colon, while the back remains in the lumen. Infection occurs when ripe eggs are ingested with unwashed vegetables, herbs, water, or through dirty hands after contact with soil. The parasite lives in the intestines for years and feeds on tissue fluid and blood. With a small number of worms there may be no complaints at all; with a massive infestation, abdominal pain, unstable stool mixed with mucus and blood appear, and in children - anemia and developmental delays. The disease is curable with antiparasitic drugs prescribed by a doctor.

Eosinophilia (increased eosinophils)
Eosinophilia is an increase in eosinophils, blood cells that are involved in allergic reactions and defense against parasites. Moderate elevations are common and are usually explained by allergies, asthma, atopic dermatitis, or a drug reaction. The second large group of causes are parasitic infestations, especially those in which the larvae migrate through tissues. What matters is not so much the percentage as the absolute number of eosinophils and its persistence: a prolonged pronounced increase can damage the heart, lungs and nervous system, and therefore requires examination. Questioning, tests for parasites and an assessment of the allergic background help to understand the cause.
