Birth trauma of the cervical spine
Birth injury of the cervical spine is damage to the vertebrae, ligaments, muscles or spinal cord in the neck area received during childbirth. True trauma is rare and is associated with difficult childbirth: a large baby, breech presentation, the use of obstetric aids, rapid or, conversely, protracted labor. It manifests itself noticeably: the child holds his head to one side, moves his arm poorly, sucks sluggishly, and gets anxious when changing position. At the same time, the diagnosis is often made excessively, explaining the usual anxiety or regurgitation. Therefore, examination by a pediatric neurologist and neonatologist is important: some conditions require immediate assistance, while others require only observation.

Epilepsy in children
Epilepsy is a chronic brain disease in which recurrent seizures are caused by a sudden overdischarge of nerve cells. In children, it looks different: it is not only convulsions with loss of consciousness, but also short freezes with stopping gaze, twitching of one hand, strange sensations or sudden falls. One seizure does not mean epilepsy: the diagnosis is made when seizures are repeated or there is a high risk of recurrence, confirmed by examination. In many children, the disease is well controlled with medication, and some forms resolve by adolescence. The main thing is to contact a neurologist in time so that seizures do not interfere with the child’s studies, development and safety.

Cerebral palsy (CP)
Cerebral palsy is a group of permanent movement and posture disorders caused by damage to the immature brain before birth, during childbirth, or in the first months of life. The key thing that parents need to understand is that brain damage itself does not progress - it happened once and does not increase. Something else changes: the child grows, and without work, secondary problems form - contractures, dislocations, deformities. That is why early and regular rehabilitation treatment determines the result more than any drugs.

Hydrocephalus
Hydrocephalus is an excessive accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the ventricles of the brain, leading to their expansion and compression of brain tissue. The disease is usually associated with babies and enlarged heads, but there is a second, much more often overlooked form - normal pressure hydrocephalus in the elderly. Its manifestations - gait disturbance, urinary incontinence and memory loss - are almost always attributed to age and dementia, whereas this is one of the few reversible causes: after surgery, the condition can improve significantly.
