Problems in bed are related to the heart: erectile dysfunction and heart attack
Erectile dysfunction (ED) can be an early warning sign of cardiovascular disease, heart attack and stroke. With regular fiascoes in bed, men should undergo a comprehensive examination by a cardiologist. These are the results of a study published in the journal Vascular Medicine.
According to American scientists, men with erectile dysfunction (ED) usually exhibit other early markers of cardiovascular disease.
Let us remind you that ED is defined as the inability to achieve and maintain an erection for full sexual intercourse. According to rough estimates, 1 in 10 men on the planet have problems with potency; after 75 years - in 3 out of 4 men.
Interesting facts about erectile dysfunction:
• ED affects about 50% of all men with diabetes
• A pack of cigarettes a day doubles the risk of sexual problems
• More than 20 million people regularly take Viagra
• Impotence is believed to be the cause of 20% of all divorces in the world
• Only 30% of men with erectile dysfunction seek help
• In 15% of cases the cause of ED is psychological
It is not surprising that ED negatively affects the psycho-emotional state of men: low self-esteem, anxiety, depression. Inability in bed is usually accompanied by a catastrophic decrease in quality of life.
But doctors are increasingly considering potency as an indicator of vascular health. Research says men with erectile dysfunction are at risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD). By this umbrella term, scientists mean any pathologies affecting the coronary arteries.
The vascular endothelium is the first to suffer
A team of doctors conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of 28 studies that looked at the link between erectile dysfunction and early symptoms of heart disease.
The main discovery is that sexual problems in men often indicate poor condition of the endothelium (inner lining) of blood vessels. This is the first sign of atherosclerosis. In addition, the researchers found that ED is associated with an increase in mean carotid intimal thickness, which is also an early marker of atherosclerosis.
“Our results remained consistent even after controlling for age, study methodology, ED assessment methods, and publication period,” the authors said.
In other words, the vessels suffer first. Problems in sexual life can signal early changes in the blood arteries, which in a few years or tomorrow will manifest themselves as a heart attack, stroke or other serious complications.
Erectile dysfunction is a risk of heart attack and a serious reason to see a doctor for examination.
