Laparoscopic cholecystectomy at the VITAMED MEDICAL clinic
Gallstone disease (GSD) is a fairly common disease. Stagnation and increased concentration of bile in the bladder contribute to the formation of stones in the gallbladder, and subsequently in the bile ducts, which leads to disruption of the flow of bile into the intestines, the development of obstructive jaundice and inflammation of the pancreas.
For more than 100 years, the only method of guaranteed treatment for cholelithiasis is gallbladder removal - cholecystectomy. The operation does not deprive the digestive system of a regular supply of bile and does not cause any side effects. The operation prevents the development of serious complications, which can be fatal and often require emergency surgical treatment. Planned surgical treatment is much safer and easier to tolerate for patients than operations for emergency indications.
Since 1988, gallbladder removal began to be performed using laparoscopic techniques, and since then laparoscopic cholecystectomy has become the “gold standard” in cholelithiasis surgery.
Foreign and domestic studies have shown that 12-15% of patients with cholelithiasis have stones not only in the gallbladder, but also in the bile ducts. In order not to leave stones in the bile ducts (in this case the disease will progress), before laparoscopic surgery it is always carried out preoperative cholangiography (MRI - examination of the bile ducts). If stones are found not only in the gallbladder, but also in the bile ducts, the first stage of surgery is performed: retrograde cholangiopancreatography and endoscopic papillosphincterotomy with lithoextraction.
The second stage is laparoscopic cholecystectomy. These measures protect the patient from relapse of gallstone disease.
Currently, at the VITAMED MEDICAL clinic, cholecystectomy is performed using the latest laparoscopic stand and instrumentation - Karl Storz. After laparoscopic operations, three invisible scars 5 mm long and one 10 mm long (in the navel) remain on the skin of the abdomen. The use of cosmetic sutures and standardized anesthesia protocols ensure a comfortable period after surgery. From the first day, patients begin to get out of bed, drink, and the next day begin to eat. The patient can begin work and active physical activity in 6-7 days. Following a diet for 30-40 days in the postoperative period allows the patient to fully adapt to the absence of the gallbladder.
