Antibiotics – risk of increased kidney stone formation

The uncontrolled use of antibiotics has been criticized many times for the possible side effects they have on patients. And now American researchers are again presenting arguments compelling them to abandon their thoughtless and inappropriate use.

According to American doctors from New York University, taking antibiotics increases the risk of kidney stones in patients. The study examined the side effects of antibiotics on intestinal microflora. As a result of the experiment, it was revealed that antibiotics, with their antibacterial effect, significantly reduce the number of Oxalobacter formigenes bacteria, and this negative effect persists for 6 months.

The bacteria Oxalobacter formigenes in the human body is involved in oxalate metabolism. They control the level of these products in a person’s blood and prevent the intestinal walls from absorbing oxalates that enter the body along with food intake. As a result of such control, there is no concentration of oxalates in the blood and these excesses do not turn into stones.

The destruction of colonies of Oxalobacter formigenes bacteria leads to an increase in the level of oxalates, the excess of which settles in the kidneys in the form of stones. Therefore, doctors once again warn about the harmful effects of uncontrolled self-administration of antibiotics.

We encourage you to take responsibility for your health and take medication only prescribed by professional doctors.
